About GEORGE

A Leader  For Over 10 Years

I have represented Gallup and the surrounding area in the New Mexico Senate since 2009. I am grateful for the support I have received across the district and all that we have been able to accomplish in the last decade. I am running for re-election to continue my work on legislative initiatives that I strongly believe will improve the plight of communities throughout Senate District 4.

Family History

When my father, Eddie Muñoz was Mayor of Gallup, he walked to Santa Fe to advocate for tougher DWI penalties and to change the law that allowed for drive-up liquor windows. My father’s actions and commitment to improving the lives of so many people in our community still has a major impact on me and guides my dedication to public service.

It is the values of hard work, loyalty and pride in community that were instilled in me by my parents and the community of Gallup which drive my decision to run for re-election. I humbly ask for your vote and your support in the upcoming election. I look forward to traveling around the district in the coming months to discuss the issues and concerns that are important to voters.

There are parts of New Mexico that still don’t have access to running water. I am running for re-election to ensure that water is available to everyone in Senate District 4. I am committed to working on addressing New Mexico’s water shortage by establishing clear water policy that protects our aquifers, rivers, lakes and reservoirs and tackles the conflicts around water-rights issues.

We are in a health crisis. Funding for alcohol/substance abuse treatment and ensuring that constituents in Senate District 4 have access to mental health services will be a focus of my advocacy in Santa Fe.

I believe in expanding our economy by making New Mexico the renewable energy capital of the world. I am running for re-election to support efforts in the legislature that grow our renewable energy economy.

Education is the key to success. In the last legislative session, I sponsored Senate Bill 170 which called out the unfair funding formula that the state of New Mexico uses to fund our schools. Gallup schools should not suffer at the expense of our children. I am running for re-election to continue the fight for fair school funding.

The construction on I-40 has been arduous and challenging for constituents in Senate District 4. I am committed to ensuring that the construction is completed in a safe and timely manner.
